Bifrost Arts

Thanks to my friend Timbre, a beautiful harpist in Nashville, I have been invited to participate in a collaborative project of hymns and sacred songs hosted by Bifrost Arts in Charlottesville, VA during the first week of the new year 2012. I'm all kinds of excited at the mere thought of being in the presence of Sandra McCracken, Timbre (see hyperlink above), and The Innocence Mission (drool)! I hope I am able to swallow my nerves and have a little fun. Brrr it will be cold in VA!

Soundcloud

An old traditional that I used to sing in my early singing days, inspired by Disney's "So Dear To My Heart"... the movie about that stubborn, precious black sheep, Danny, that only Jeremiah's young heart could love.

Mars

In French fashion, Mars actually means March, not a foreign place external to Earth.

A few knick knacks, for your perusing pleasure--

  • The kind folks at VIRB have featured me, Molly, in a Kickstarter+Virb spotlight since I was/am involved in both. It's not much, but check it out here
  • Speaking of,... MY KICKSTARTER PROJECT WAS FULLY FUNDED!! The album is being mixed by Daniel F. Brewer right now. He has allowed me to hear a few preliminary tracks and it is very amazing to hear a full band play my measly acoustic songs. Wow. That Joel Seibel knows what's up.
  •  I'm one of the female voices on Peter Bradley Adams's new record entitled "Between Us"! He invited me to Nashville last April and then NYC last August in order to record my voice on his songs. The record is due out very, very, very, very soon. I recently sang with him in both Atlanta and Nashville. Both shows were scheduled on very cold nights, ps. Jon Estes is a great bassist, pps. This picture is from the show in Atlanta at Eddie's Attic (my favorite venue, duh). (L-R Jon Estes, Peter Bradley Adams, David, Hans Holzen)

  • Daniel (as he likes to be referred to, musically) and I hiked and drove up Kennesaw Mountain last week to record a few cover songs especially for YouTube. It was fun! We've spoken of making a routine of weekly "YouTube sessions". I suppose we'll see if that pans out. I'd like for it to!

  • Also, my niece is just a-growing up. Danny has a niece too!!!  She was born Sunday, March 6, 2011 around 9:30 A.M. and she will be called Journey Abigail, and I take pleasure in the fact that we share the same middle name. Back to my niece, Dakota Rose; I see her maybe once every 2 weeks due to the distance between our homesteads. Naturally, during our visitation hours, I whip out the iPhone and snap/tap pictures of her. I LOVE HER!!!

Molly Parden sings Mindy Smith's "Out Loud"

http://mparden.virb.com/ Hey friend why are we always hiding?
It's no wonder that we're sinking down
Why should we stand in lonely shadows
with so much light around. Hey friend why are we always crying?
So many tears are going to dry us out What ever they're selling
we've gotta stop buying Cause our pockets are empty now.
I've thought about it And I've prayed about it out loud, out loud
We can talk about it We can pray about it out loud, out loud Hey friend why are we always fighting
Who's left to hit when everybody's down
? I know we're afraid but love is trying To save us anyhow I've thought about it I've prayed about it out loud, out loud We can talk about it We can pray about it out loud, out loud Ain't it time we need to change We need to change a few things I think it's time we need to change

I think its time we need to change a few things A few things Well I've thought about it I've prayed about it out loud, out loud We can talk about it We can pray about it out loud, out loud Words & Music by Mindy Smith

Be Still My Heart

Hey! I was on national tv recently! In reality, it was just my voice, backing the lovely vocals of Peter Bradley Adams; but still! Here are some links to help you find it--

Live from the Mountain Stage w/Peter Bradley Adams on NPR

I sang with Peter on 5 songs, "Be Still My Heart" was the 3rd song in the set. I was so nervous!!

One Tree Hill (Season 8 Episode 8)

"Be Still My Heart" plays around the 26-minute mark as blondie dude starts talking to dead dude's tombstone.

I'm singing with him again in December at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA. If you're in the area, it will be an amazing show to catch!

Kickstarter!

Molly Is Making Music!

Kickstarter.com is a brilliant way for someone with a creative idea but not a lot of funds to seek the help of their community, financially. Many of my friends have successfully funded their projects, so I thought I would give it a shot. My project is the making of a full-length record! My first one! It is already underway, so the completion almost completely depends on the backing of this fundraiser. I have hope, though; I came up with some pretty awesome rewards.

"What A Friend We Have In Jesus"

One Sunday morning, I visited a church in Breman, GA to play 2 hymns for a small crowd of friendly church-goers. This was one song that Danny and I performed as a duo, our voices ringing upwards into the rafters and along the windows, through the empty pews and onto the pulpit behind us.

"Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac cover)

Joel Seibel gave me the bright, shining idea to cover this song. Danny and I practiced a harmony for him to sing, and Danny picked it up flawlessly. No ripping guitar solo, though; we're not yet to Lindsey Buckingham-status.

"Teach Me Your Pain" by Besides Daniel

After arriving an hour and a half late to my 5:00 P.M. set at the Homemade Genius/96 Festival this past Friday Sept. 10, David from Scene SC volunteered to film us inside Danny's humble abode on wheels as we sang one of Danny's original songs.

Kelly Is Awesome

Kelly Lewis of Jonesboro, GA lent her photographic hands and eyes at a dream-come-true photo shoot in Stockbridge, GA at a horse farm. The dream-come-true part was the presence of the massive creatures on four legs with tails extending from their rears and coarse manes coming from their sleek necks. Somewhere early in my minute life I claimed them as my favourite animals. Farris Lewis got me the location hook-up and so graciously agreed to style my hair and decorate my face. Dear sister Hannah Parden supplied me with half of her wardrobe, though we used only 2 outfits during the 30 minute shoot. Oh, it was wonderful; the horses flocked to the chair I was perched on and even took a few nibbles at my back and the shoulder of the chair. All for art, art for all.

Blue Indian Musician Showcase

Luke Goddard of the Blue Indian was so astounded by my Patty Griffin-like voice coming out of my small, introverted body that he blurbed about it, bragging of my "sugar mama" qualities and streaming an mp3 of my original song "C'est la Vie" on the worldwide webs.

Singing Live

At the NEW 567 venue in Macon, GA, Alec Stanley so graciously arranged a quiet opportunity for Besides Daniel, Tim Walker and myself to play our songs for a few locals as William Haun captured some of the night on film. www.williamhaun.com

House Show - Molly Parden [part 2] from Sheldon Frazier on Vimeo.

"Time Is Medicine"

(This is an original) Shortly after returning from my first on-the-road tour with Besides Daniel (http://www.besidesdaniel.com), I was invited to play a house show in the house which I now reside, the "cabin" in East Atlanta. Also on the bill was Texas natives Jacob Metcalf & his band of 3 gypsies ("Teddy Waggy", Petra Kelly and Kaitlyn Terrell). They were sooo enchanting!! I sat in the stairwell of the main room of the house in a dream, listening to the gentle swells of the violin complement the delicate plucking of Jacob's guitar, swooning over the tasteful flute whistles and strummings of the ukuleles. Such a dreamy night... Sheldon Frazier recorded several of their songs as well as mine and posted them to Vimeo. Sheldon is a very friendly and generous photographer/videographer, and is good about frequenting local music events.

"Mama You Been On My Mind (cover)" by Bob Dylan

"I don't even mind who you'll be waking with tomorrow, But mama you just on my mind" Perhaps my favourite line, Dylan's way of sounding pitifully helpless yet simply informative is rather charming to me. Also, I can't exactly explain the colour changes during the video, but I did run it through a random effect on iMovie.

"Like A Feather"

An original ballad written in the absence of a loved one, "Like A Feather" was recorded without the permitted use of Jordan-Ann Poe's macbook pro. I'd like to take this space to thank her for the use of her laptop. It is amazing. This may or may not be my most country-inspired song, despite my claim of hatred for the more modern version of this genre.

"Loretta (paraphrased cover)" by Townes Van Zandt

I had the bright idea one afternoon of re-writing the playful love song "Loretta". This clip was originally intended as a practice recording to ensure the quality of audio and video connections before the cover of Jump Little Children's "Mexico" was captured. Thanks to Danny Brewer for posting the video anyway!

"Mexico (cover)" by Jump Little Children

The first recorded collaboration of Danny Brewer of Besides Daniel (http://www.besidesdaniel.com) and Molly Parden (me) was back in March 2010. I was quite nervous to be in front of a camera, not to mention to be sitting beside Daniel (pun). Little did we know our voices would fit together like long-lost puzzle pieces.

Danny Brewer of Besides Daniel (http://www.besidesdaniel.com) and myself covered this song at an Atlanta Collective (http://thecollectiveatl.tumblr.com/) gathering back in June of this year, then decided to record it in Danny's home before he left for a 7-day bike tour across South Carolina in support of Compassion International.

The Breakup Song

Molly and Hannah recreate the wedding song with a bit of a more... depressing ring to it!
